The U.S. Department of Defense has created the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) framework, which requires any organization that works closely with the Department of Defense (and similar government agencies) to enhance cybersecurity protocols.
CMMC applies not only to defense contractors but their subcontractors and vendors, as well as educational institutions that receive DoD research grants.
